Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has a glorious history of research and development, innovation and dissemination of technology, products and processes which are dedicated to the service of the nation and extends to whole of the mankind.
Intellectual property rights (IPR) are vital to higher education institutions because they protect stakeholders' intellectual property (IP) created through research and development. The scope of IPR has not been limited to patents, but has been extended to all types of intellectual property such as copyright, geographical indications, trademarks, designs, etc.
In view of this and considering the importance of formally protecting the intellectual property of the faculties, staff and students, the university has an established IPR cell which is governed by a well-defined IP policy and also has established procedure for marketing the technologies generated in coordination with Lab-to-Market Cell.
IPR cell conducts activities to provide a clear understanding of the rights and responsibilities of the stakeholders to protect their IPs generated through research work and also ensures the expedited prosecution of applications for patents, designs, copyrights and all other forms of IPRs.
